- Bring the Category Development Methodology to life by using the process, template and tools with selected categories to develop category strategies and plans that are data-informed and customer-led
- Facilitate and support the category team and associated supplier(s) to
- Plan and manage their Category Development process, from kick-off to sign-off, measure and monitor
- Mobilise and collaborate with the necessary stakeholders across category, suppliers, central teams, BU partners
- Develop or refine Customer Decision Trees (CDT’s) using customer insights
- Gather and analyse the defined suite of data for category insights
- Ask probing questions, challenge current paradigms, inspire creativity and problem solving
- Distil insights up into themes and develop the Category Strategy, incl. vision, targets and growth drivers
- Define projects to deliver the strategy, mobilise for delivery, implement, measure monitor
- Facilitate and support the category teams rolling out the Tactical process (a subset of the full methodology)
- Collaborate and integrate across projects and central areas to enable varied business objectives through the process, where applicable
- Identify opportunities for improvement of the Category Development Methodology, and work with Central Buying colleagues to apply continuous improvement
- Contribute to defining the Category Leadership journey and business case
- Co-Create and Manage the Category Development rollout plan when it comes into effect
- Provide input into building Category Development into the Food business process
- Contribute to developing and populating the Category Development knowledge library
- Collaborate with Central Buying colleagues and Food Academy to define the Category Leadership Academy

Minimum requirements
- Relevant 3 year tertiary or NQF aligned qualification
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in Retail or food production
- A passionate Foodie
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in managing projects
- 5 years Experience in category strategy delivery
- 5 years’ FMCG Category Management experience in industry
- 5 years’ Woolworths Food experience advantageous in either Buying or Planning
- Experience working in a client delivery and matrix team structure advantageous
- Ideal candidate has strong experience in
- Using Customer insights to define Customer Decision Trees (CDT’s)
- Assessing categories and developing Category Strategies and plans, incl.
- Distilling insights from varied sources; communicating the story the data tells
- Customer insight led category strategy development, communicating strategy
- Setting Category KPI’s and managing performance to plans and targets
- Facilitating, integrating and collaborating across a wide range of stakeholders
- Building capability within a category team
- Commercial acumen
- Good understanding of Food supply, value chain and commercial levers
- Strong collaboration with internal and external stakeholders and partners; ability to influence and lead
- Ability to combine and analyse data and draw insights, summarise findings and make recommendations
- Advanced MS Office, incl. Excel (with experience using graphs, pivots etc.), PowerPoint and MS Teams
- Ability to consolidate, communicate, motivate for and mobilise change
- Strong facilitation, inter-personal and communication skills
- Excellent multi-tasking ability; adaptability
- Attention to detail
