Correctional Services Learnership 2022

The Department of Correctional Services is inviting young gifted individuals to be part of the Correctional Services Learnership Program.

The Department aims at reducing poverty and unemployment with this program. If you are interested to be part of this initiative you apply when the learnership open, however you need to meet all the requirements set out by the department. This program form part of the National Skills Development Strategy.

This program will help interested candidates to gain valuable experience and skills that will assist them in their workplace. Candidates will receive a stipend of R3 500 per month. The duration of this program usually takes a period of 12 months.

Correctional Services Learnership Programme: Basic Requirements

There are certain requirements for being accepted into this learnership:

Minimum Requirements

  • Candidates must be a permanent South African citizen
  • Candidates must be in possession of a Matric certificate
  • Applicants must bee in possession of a Further Education and Training Certificate NQF (Level 4); or
  • Applicants must have successfully completed the National Certificate in Vocational Studies (NQF Level 4)

Additional Requirements

  • Candidates must be aged between 25 and 35
  • Candidates must have a clear criminal record
  • Applicants must have a strong character

Preference will be given to applicants who have additional qualifications such as a Trade or Occupational-based Certificate, Diploma, or Degree related to Security/Corrections.

Any such additional qualifications will not be considered in the payment of the stipend paid to learners during the learnership or for further salary/wage purposes.

Correctional Services Learnership Programme: Application Process

Applications for this learnership will open later in the year, normally around November or December. You can keep checking whether the learnership is open for applications yet by checking the Vacancies page on the DCS website.

Please take into account that:

  • Unsigned Application forms will not be considered
  • Photocopied forms will not be taken into consideration
  • Faxed or e-mailed forms will not be be taken into account

Candidates must know that during their workplace training they will be responsible their accommodation , transport and meal costs. That is why the department encourages applicants to apply for a learnership in the region closest to where they live.

Completed Correctional Services Learnership application forms with all necessary attached documents can be mailed (posted at the post office) or hand-delivered to the Regional Commissioner at the Management Office nearest to where you live.
