The Department of Transport is one of the main branches of the South African Government. They are in charge of maintenance, construction, and development of national roads, marine transport, international airports and national airports, as well as all local roads and railways. They also hold a shared obligation for public transport, traffic regulations, vehicle licensing, parking, traffic, and airports. They are also accountable for protocols of freight, shipping, public transport, motor vehicles and rail transportation.

This Department aims to provide sufficient skilled workers and assist in stabilizing the country?s economy. They aim to do this via their programs offered to the gifted youth of South Africa. There are many opportunities for growth within this Department.

Basic Requirements

Candidates must be aged between 18-35 years old. Candidates must provide a detailed curriculum vitae and any other documents that you may feel is important to their application. Candidates must provide necessary documents and all required documents must be certified.

  • Candidates be a permanent citizen of South African
  • Candidates must be in possession of a valid South African ID document
  • Candidates must have completed Grade 12 and have their certificate
  • Candidates must be fluent in English and Another language
  • Applicants must not have a criminal record
  • Applicants must be mentally and physically fit
  • Must not be declared incompetent in any other Legislation that could be of relevance
  • You must be prepared to work public holidays, weekend and shifts if required
  • Must have excellent communication skills both verbal & written
  • Applicants must not be involved in any employee dismissal processes

Candidates who provide false information may be prosecuted. Selected candidates may be asked to do some medical fitness, driving test and fingerprint verification.

Upon the completion of this program candidates are not guaranteed a permanent position, However some could be offered a permanent contract of employment.

Department of Transport learnerships applications online is not available. Interested individuals may, however, download the Z83 Application form, complete it and submit when learnerships open. Once this Department has learnerships available, they will be advertised locally and also on their Careers Page of their website.
